Leaving Athens and Driving to Corinth

Packed up in Athens and drove over to Corinth.

Stopped at a resort to see a tortoise Carolyn knew was there. Ate a fruit from a tree there. Tried an orange from the ground but it was the decorative kind so very sour!


Drove back a bumpy dirt road to see a Pill Box (bunker used in WW2) and the Corinth Canal. Daniel took us to a hidden bridge off the beaten path that took us over the Corinth Canal. Daniel gave us a history lesson on the building of the Corinth Canal and the Greek's incredible resistance in World War 2. 


The Corinth Canal connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea in Greece by cutting through the narrow Isthmus of Corinth and by separating the Peloponnese from the Greek mainland. 


Found our Airbnb, ate supper and played games.

Ancient Corinth and Spring Water

  This morning Carolyn and Daniel went for the early morning swim! Then Carolyn and I biked around with the bikes available at our Airbnb. We had a good laugh over the one bike that had a bit of an issue!     We ate breakfast and continued our game of Phase Ten. Lots of competition going around! Left to see the ruins of Ancient Corinth and drove up the mountain to Acrocorinth, the fortified acropolis of Corinth. At Ancient Corinth, saw the speaker’s platform where the Apostle Paul preached to the Corinthians. There was an old stone there with the inscription of 2 Corinthians 4:17 written in Greek and English. For this slight momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison. This was the verse Sam read at Life’s spring banquet this year.  After eating our Gyros on top of the mountain by the Acrocorinth, we headed down off the mountain. Big First Day in Greece!

  Friday, April 14 Big first day in Greece!  Slept in. Carolyn took Dad and Mom their coffee in bed. Carolyn took this picture this morning of Dad and Mom eating breakfast on the balcony. I said, “So cute!” Mom said that’s the word many people describe them as saying, “Oh you’re so cute!” Carolyn read the verses from Proverbs 16:  Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained in the way of righteousness. A man plans his ways but the Lord directs his steps. Dad said, “That’s my verse.” Carolyn just told me that yesterday on the plane after we got our food, Mom told her a story she’s never heard before. When Mom was seventeen on her solo trip to California, she didn’t know she was supposed to order her food before they took off. So after she was on the plane, a lady sitting beside her opened up a box with a big chicken dinner and shared it with Mom! Carolyn just showed me her hat she bought last July here in Greece.
